Reviews and commits

Reviews and commits

Two places in a workstream keep its work accountable. HITL Reviews holds outputs that need people to sign off before they go anywhere. Commits keeps saved snapshots of the work that you can look back at and restore.

Reviews (human approval)

When a workstream's governance asks for approval, a report or a run's external actions wait in HITL Reviews until the required approvers sign off.

A review page showing the output to approve, approval progress and the required approvers

  1. Open HITL Reviews in the workstream sidebar and choose a review.
  2. Read the output under Output review: the report or files staged for release.
  3. Check External actions: changes to connected systems that will be released after approval.
  4. Discuss in Conversation if something needs to change.
  5. When you are one of the Required approvers, sign off. Approval progress shows who has signed off.
  6. When everyone required has approved, choose Publish changes.

All required approvers must sign off before changes are published. Who must approve, and how strict the gates are, is set in Workstream settings → Governance. See Workstream settings.

A report can also go to review from its preview with Submit for HITL review. See Reports.

Commits

Commits lists saved snapshots of the workstream's work, newest first: Saved snapshots you can restore.

The Commits page with three saved snapshots, one expanded to show its details

Each commit shows:

  • a label for why it was saved, such as Audit only or Investigation, and what saved it, such as Checkpoint or Loop run;
  • what happened, such as Run completed or Loop run failed;
  • when it was saved.

Open a commit to see Why this matters, its technical details and its checkpoint metadata: risk posture, trigger, files and run.

To go back to a saved state, choose Restore checkpoint from the menu beside the commit. Turn on Full rollback to also remove files added after that checkpoint, so the work matches the saved state exactly.

FAQs

Who can approve a review? The people named as approvers in the workstream's governance settings.

Does restoring a commit delete later work? Only with Full rollback, which removes files added after the checkpoint. Without it, the saved files come back and newer files stay.
